VETERINARIAN INSURANCE PLAN
Most, if not all, pigeon products obtained by pigeon folk are being supplied by numerous distributors in the USA. These products are often imported illegally, without registration and are being supplied without veterinary prescriptions. These products are under tight scrutiny, and the scrutiny will become more intense over time. Furthermore, the costs of these products and items, with the future of increased tariffs, may become prohibitive for the pigeon sport to afford. This will lead many fanciers to leave the sport.
My plan is to start a “compounding” facility that produces many of the veterinary products and supplements that pigeon fanciers use. A compounding facility requires a pharmacist and a GMP (good manufacturing practice) certificate/facility oversight by a pharmacist. I am in the process of finding a suitable facility. A prescription for medication (where required) will be supplied with the delivery of the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients. Supplements are not regulated and do not require a prescription.
A detailed website will be available to members for ordering any products (as well as “bought-in” products) to be delivered directly to the individual. Vaccines will also be available to order – Rotavax is available, and Pox and PMV may become available in due course.
Each member will be asked to donate $10 per month to become a DONOR, and all orders (and payments) will be treated as DONATIONS for which an annual certificate will be provided by the 501(c)(3) entity for IRS tax purposes. That means that the monthly $10 plus the value of all orders and delivery costs will be tax-deductible for all AU members.
There will be a minimal cost per prescription order, which will be credited as a discount when orders exceed a certain value.
Delivery costs will be included at the CART payment portal with options between FedEx / USPS / UPS, ground rates and overnight rates. The entry of the members’ zip code and size of each order will determine the cost thereof. These costs will be treated as DONATIONS and reflected in the donation certificate.
If members wish to purchase any products that are not on the list, every effort will be made to obtain them.
I have made initial costings for the products I have identified as most required and can almost guarantee at least a 30% cost savings for members, without factoring purchase tax benefits.
This effort is also in line with the MADE IN AMERICA narrative, which holds other benefits when negotiating with any government departments to obtain any relaxation on imported products.
In essence, this facility will be for AU MEMBERS – in line with what was proposed during the AU Convention in Chicago in October 2026.
It is envisaged that you will have access to a veterinarian specializing in avian sickness, medicine, and treatment protocols.
To comply with FDA and USDA requirements, all Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients will be delivered with a veterinarian’s prescriptions.
Consultations and advice with a specialist veterinarian pigeon specialist will be available. Initial contact will be made on the website, with specific symptom questions being asked. Accordingly, advice and prescriptions for APIs will be available with the delivery of the products.
